Study smarter. Not harder.
You don't need to study more.
You need to study right.
The problem is not effort. It is direction.
About
I teach students how to learn properly, so their effort actually turns into results. Not just what to study, but how learning actually works. Because most students are working hard. They are just not getting results for the time they are putting in.
And I know exactly how that feels.
I started medical school at 17. Abroad in Europe, away from my family and every friend I had grown up with. At that time things were not easy at home financially. I carried that with me every single day. I could not afford to fail. I could not afford to fall behind. And I was terrified of both.
I also had a quiet, persistent belief that I was not smart enough to be there. That everyone else understood things faster, remembered things better, and worked in ways I did not. I spent a lot of time pretending I was fine.
I remember one night sitting at my desk, surrounded by notes, diagrams, and hours of videos I had gone through. I closed my eyes and tried to explain what I had just spent the evening studying.
I could not. Not clearly. Not properly. Not in a way that actually meant anything.
After all that time, nothing had stuck.
That moment stayed with me. Because I had done everything I was supposed to do. I had worked hard. I had sacrificed. And it still was not enough.
So I did what most students do when that happens.
I worked harder.
More hours. More notes. More videos. I cut out my social life entirely. No nights out, no downtime, nothing that felt like a distraction. Away from home, that isolation became its own kind of pressure. And still, my grades moved slowly. Still, I felt like I was falling behind. Still, it did not feel like enough.
There were nights I genuinely thought about giving up.
Over time, something changed. Not because I finally found the discipline.
I did not succeed because I worked harder than everyone else. I succeeded the moment I stopped.
I stopped adding more hours. I stopped rewriting the same notes. I stopped consuming more and more without understanding why nothing was staying. And I started asking a different question entirely. Not how much am I studying, but how am I studying.
That shift changed everything.
Learning is not a talent. It is a skill.
And like any skill, once you understand how it actually works, everything becomes easier. I reduced my study time. My results improved. My grades climbed every single year. And by the end of medical school, I graduated with First Class Honours.
More importantly, I got my life back. I could be present again. Spend time with friends. Stop carrying that constant, exhausting anxiety about whether I was doing enough.
The goal was never to study more. It was to need less time to understand more.
Since then I have sat hundreds of tests and well over 100 major exams, and spent over 10,000 hours learning, teaching, and refining everything I know about how to study properly under pressure. I have worked with students across secondary school, college, and medical training, and I am backed by a team of teachers, doctors, and professors who continue to shape how I teach.
I have made the mistakes. The same ones most students are making right now.
That is why I built LearnLikeaDoctor. Not to give students study tips. But to give them something I never had at 17. A clear understanding of how learning actually works, so they do not have to spend years figuring it out the way I did.
I work with students directly, one to one, because that is where real change happens. Not in a group. Not in a course. In a conversation, tailored to you, where we identify exactly where your learning is breaking down and fix it.
My goal is simple. To make sure every hour you study actually counts. So you do not have to sacrifice your life just to keep up. So you can study with clarity, with confidence, and actually enjoy the process.
If you are a parent reading this, I know how hard it is to watch your child work and still struggle. That is exactly who I built this for.
Amandeep Walia, GP & Author
I am a GP running a busy practice in Co. Meath, Ireland. I take my work seriously, but I also care deeply about work-life balance. That is something I had to learn the hard way.
Outside of medicine, I enjoy reading, both fiction and non-fiction, with Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings being my all-time favourites. Staying active is a big part of my life, whether that is calisthenics, Muay Thai, weight lifting, or just getting outside for a hike or a run.
I like a good movie, I enjoy gaming, and I make sure I switch off properly when the day is done.
I do not believe in sacrificing everything for study. I believe in learning properly, so you do not have to.
My long term goal is to help build schools in parts of the world where access to education is limited. We are aiming to begin by 2029.
Because every student deserves the chance to learn properly. Not just the ones who figure it out on their own.
The Method
Most students are never taught how to study properly. They are taught what to study, not how to make it stick.
On YouTube
I share free videos on study, memory, learning, and exam pressure on the Learn Like a Doctor YouTube channel. The goal is simple: help you stop wasting effort and start making real progress.

I am currently writing a book that brings together everything I have learned about studying, memory, pressure, and real understanding.
It is not a book of quick hacks. It is a practical, human guide built from years of high-stakes study, real mistakes, and hard-earned lessons.
This is the foundation of everything I teach. If you have ever felt like you are working hard but not getting results, this is where to start.
This is not about studying more. It is about studying properly.
1:1 Sessions
This is not about working harder. It is about fixing how you learn.
This is where everything becomes practical. We identify exactly where your learning is breaking down and fix it.
The programme includes an initial call followed by three focused sessions, tailored to you.
By the end, students understand how to study properly, feel more confident, and start seeing real progress.
Support does not stop when the sessions do. You have direct access to me and the team by email, with questions answered within 72 hours.
Parents can also request our PDF guide on supporting your child through study. Included as part of the programme.
